Our Principal

Dear Hulstrom Parents and Community,

I am honored to serve the students of Hulstrom Options K-8.

Entering my thirteenth year as a principal, I bring a leadership style that prioritizes stewardship, excellence, and outstanding student achievement.  In my career, I’ve gained experience leading both high performing and struggling schools.  Every school showed successful growth because of interrelated collaboration among all stakeholders, as well as empowerment of staff.

Hulstrom has a long, proud tradition of excellence.  To continue to achieve this we rely on an interrelated collaborative learning environment highlighting rigor, trusting relationships, relevant and high quality differentiated instruction, and a solid curriculum that meets or exceeds the Colorado State Standards.

Most importantly, however, we ask for constant and trusting communication between parents, guardians and staff.  Please realize we take the responsibility of educating your child very seriously.  It is vital that we work together to foster your child's educational abilities, as well as provide him/her with the tools necessary to be prepared as a 21st Century learner and productive citizen.

Hulstrom is a wonderful, dynamic home to students in grades K-8, and a part of school choice for the Adams 12 Five Star School District.  We house two very strong, dynamic programs designed to meet the needs of the learners they serve.

The Advanced Academic Program (AAP) is an accelerated program that provides a balanced approach to education for students in grades K-8 who learn best in a structured, rigorous environment combined with inter-disciplinary thematic studies.  Students will focus on critical skills in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.  However, creative endeavors and opportunities for students to create projects to demonstrate their learning will also be provided.

The Gifted Options program is a full-time gifted and talented program for students in grades K-8. Students are identified through the Adams 12 School District gifted and talented identification criteria, which includes a combination of aptitude assessments, achievement assessments, teacher and parent input and product/performance review of the students. Students are taught by a classroom teacher with training and expertise in the needs of gifted and talented learners. Students operate at a more appropriate pace, depth and complexity level for their needs.

Our staff and parent community believe we must address the traits of successful, thoughtful, productive, healthy, creative, ethical, and good citizens, as well as raise test scores. Therefore, our goal is to address these traits in a high quality academic forum for learning. At Hulstrom, we believe that it is our responsibility to encourage all students to reach their potential by engaging them in challenging, meaningful learning experiences. At Hulstrom, we believe that it is our responsibility.

In closing, you are always welcome to stop by and visit with me.  You may also reach me via e-mail at: steven.t.isenhour@adams12.org.  I am honored and humbled to serve as your child's principal, and to be the leader of such an outstanding staff.

Steven T. Isenhour
